From the Land Down Under
G’day
My Dad’s Australian but I grew up in California, I always wanted to visit Australia to connect with my roots and better understand the country my Dad grew up in, plus Australia has great beaches and surf. So I packed up my bags and headed towards the other side of the world.
After exploring the coast from Melbourne to Brisbane, I arrived at Byron Bay, Australia. I worked as a graphic designer for an Advertising Agency in the hinterlands of Byron. I worked on lots of projects for local and national businesses and worked closely with the owner and learned lots. My work encompassed coming up with copy for projects and evolving graphic design into marketing deliverables.
An old friend of mine from college was living in Sydney Australia and we would talk about Australian companies in the digital field. At this point, I started to become aware of the unique and innovative UX work that was happening in Australia (Such as Atlassian). I knew I wanted to be a part of this innovative field. I returned to California with more skills and a new outlook and decided to pursue a career as a UX designer.
